Southern Community Initiative

Unlocking the potential in our community

Hub Projects

Community Initiatives was established in September 2011 as a direct result of a study which examined all aspects of community life in the South of the Island.

The study involved discussions with a wide range of people, examining the experiences of those that live, work and play there.  A number of issues became clear:

  • Youth – not enough to do
  • Isolation and loneliness across ages and social groups
  • Misunderstanding between the generations
  • Lack of knowledge of what is available either groups/clubs etc and health and social services
  • Older men’s difficult experiences of retirement

As a result we have begun to develop a number of community projects.
