Southern Community Initiatives

Southern Community Initiatives: Southern Community Initiatives was launched in March 2013 following local research which highlighted a high rate of isolation and loneliness within our communities.  The remit of the charity is to create local projects that will draw our communities together, such as projects that promote friendship through activities, which are enjoyable and easily accessible.  The Men in Sheds was the first such project swiftly followed by the Hub - sitauted at the Old Southlands in Port Erin, the Hub offers a whole variety of activities during the week including art, creative writing, crafts, social fitness, Yoga, Meditation, card playing and Mahjong to name a few.

Beach Buddies

Beach Buddies has spent the last 10 years transforming the beaches and coastline of the Isle of Man and the charity removes huge amounts of rubbish every year - 2.4 million items during 2016. The Big Beach Bins project is a major success and invites everyone who uses the beach to fill a bag and make a difference."  Events take place for volunteers every weekend and new volunteers are most welcome.  During 2017 Beach Buddies will pass the landmark of 7,000 individual volunteers since 2013 and expects to pass 8,000 later this year.

SPort Erin

SPort Erin is a charity established with the key goals of providing a permanent pitch for Southern Nomads RUFC and in doing so to facilitate the provision of sporting facilities for the south of the Isle of Man. In realising these, the intention is to then to increase the ongoing participation in rugby on the island and hence to further encourage sporting events across the south of the island from a wide range of sporting disciplines.
